Lewis G. Zirkle, M.D. one of the surgeons featured in TRAUMA HEALERS, was awarded The Medal for Distinguished Public Service by the U.S. Department of Defense in 2018. The medal was presented in Richland, WA by former Secretary of Defense, James Mattis.

His father’s work, coupled with years of competitive swimming, formed Penny’s background for a career in both Sports Medicine and medicine in developing countries.
